Manchester United give team news vs Crystal Palace

2 min read

Paul Pogba is available for Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Pogba, 27, has recovered from coronavirus and reported for training last week but did not travel with the United squad to Aston Villa for their only pre-season friendly.

However, Pogba was involved in outdoor sessions at Carrington this week and has been declared fit for the visit of Palace. Donny van de Beek is expected to make his United debut but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to say if the Dutchman would start, potentially alongside Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

“Donny’s settled in really well,” Solskjaer said. “He’s a smashing boy, great personality coming in with loads of energy and a big smile every day and he played well against Aston Villa, so you’re likely to see him. But, of course, I’m not going to name the team here today. I’ll have to do that to the boys after training.

“Of course [Van de Beek, Fernandes and Pogba] can start together, but you’ve got Scott McTominay, Fred and Nemanja Matic in midfield as well, so it’s not just about 11 players or three players in a squad. I’m sure we’ll see them together.

“I’m not gonna tell you who it is tomorrow but Luke [Shaw] and Paul are available for selection for how long we need them.”

Axel Tuanzebe is not match-fit and Phil Jones is still recovering from injury, while Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are unlikely to be considered for selection as they prepare for possible transfers.

Marcus Rashford has recovered from an injury that prevented him from linking up with the England squad and Fernandes, Anthony Martial, David de Gea, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood are fit after appearing for their nations.
