Manchester United fans are eager to see Donny van de Beek start instead of Paul Pogba in United’s next Premier League match.
Van de Beek has been left out of the United starting 11 for their opening two games against Crystal Palace and Brighton, though came off the bench to have an impact in both. He netted his maiden United goal versus Palace and helped keep the ball alive late on, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side won a stoppage time penalty to win 3-2.
Pogba, meanwhile, has laboured in midfield, perhaps still recovering from suffering with coronavirus. Solskjaer selected the Frenchman alongside Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic at Brighton and picked Scott McTominay against Palace.
But it seems United fans have identified their preferred midfield trio.
MEN Sport asked fans on a Twitter poll: “If you could only start one of these players alongside Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic in United’s midfield vs Tottenham next week, who would it be…?”
And Van de Beek gained more than 70 per cent of the vote, ahead of Pogba, McTominay and Fred. Pogba was next with 22 per cent, but perhaps Solskjaer will consider making the change.
Solskjaer admitted after the Brighton game that Pogba is not yet up to full speed, after he substituted the 27-year-old in both the league games so far. He backed his midfielder, however, to come good again this season.
“He missed a lot of the pre-season because of his illness, so he’s not had internationals or the friendly against Villa,” said Solskjaer.
“So of course the two 60, 65 minutes he’s had will help him along and he’ll just get better and better.”
