Manchester United fans heaped praise on Mason Greenwood for his performance in the 9-0 thrashing of Southampton on Tuesday.
Greenwood enjoyed a breakthrough season at United last term but has struggled to recapture for form for a variety of reasons in the new campaign.
The youngster was expelled from the England squad in September after breaching COVID-19 protocols and had to battle against illness when trying to regain his place in the team.
Greenwood started in his usual role on the right wing against Southampton but was one of the few United players not to get on the score sheet, with seven different players netting in the rout.
Despite not scoring, the 19-year-old impressed United supporters with his showing. Greenwood completed 91 per cent of his passes, three of which were key passes, registering an assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal. The forward also completed more dribbles than anyone else on the pitch.
Fans believe it’s only a matter of time before Greenwood is back to his best as a result of his improved form.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly backed the forward and praised his performance against Saints.
He believes Greenwood can form a partnership on the right flank with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for years to come.
He said: “Aaron is getting better and Mason’s performance tonight was excellent even though he didn’t score – and that’s a good thing, that we scored nine goals and Mason didn’t get one.”
