Some Manchester United fans are revelling in Jose Mourinho’s departure from Tottenham after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed him a defeat in his final match in charge.
The Portuguese boss has been dismissed by Daniel Levy after a 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday left the club seventh in the table and facing an uphill task to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
In the background of the Super League drama, Mourinho’s exit has been enjoyed by some United supporters, with the 58-year-old leaving Tottenham ahead of their Carabao Cup final with Manchester City on Sunday.
Fans have taken even more delight from Solskjaer inflicting Mourinho’s final defeat as Tottenham boss last weekend when United won 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Here’s how they responded on social media.
Mourinho suffered a turbulent tenure at Old Trafford which last two and a half seasons and ended in December 2018 after a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.
A number of supporters grew tired of Mourinho’s public outbursts, which saw Paul Pogba at loggerheads with the Portuguese boss.
Pogba criticised Mourinho’s man-management style in a revealing interview this week, insisting it’s a tactic that Solskjaer would never take up.
“What I have now with Ole is different, he wouldn’t go against the players,” Pogba told Sky Sports. “He wouldn’t go against the players.
“Maybe Ole wouldn’t pick them, but it’s not like he puts them on the side like they don’t exist anymore. That’s the difference between Mourinho and Ole.
“Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, everybody saw that, and the next day you don’t know what happened. That’s the strange thing I had with Mourinho and I cannot explain to you because even I don’t know. So, yeah.”
