Following up from an excellent debut where Ronaldo found the net twice at Old Trafford, the Portuguese star has now made it three goals in his opening two fixtures since re-joining the club where he made his name.
Ronaldo was found in the box with a brilliant outside-of-the-boot cross from compatriot Bruno Fernandes, leaving the 36-year-old with the relatively simple task to slot between the goalkeeper’s legs for his 135th goals in the competition.
The brilliant goalscorer might have been made to pay for not finding one of the corners with his shot, but the ball squeezed past the Young Boys keeper, making Ronaldo the first goalscorer of the 2021/22 Champions League group phase.
Understandably, United fans are over the moon with Ronaldo, who looks every bit the brilliant goalscorer in red as he did in the famous black and white of Juventus, where he won the ‘Capocannoniere’ last season — the prize awarded to the player who scores the most goals over a Serie A season.
Here are some of the fan reactions to Ronaldo’s goal, taken from Twitter:
BT Sport co-commentator Martin Keown reflected on the goal and how it is emblematic of what United fans will come to expect from their brilliant goalscorer this season: “It’s the positions he takes up, he’s the predator, look at him on the shoulder of the last defender.
“What a ball, though, outside of the right foot, delicious pass, and he does the rest comes onto it beautifully and lays it through the goalkeeper’s legs again as he did at the weekend. It might even be his first touch of the ball. It’s unbelievable.”
