Manchester United fans have been reacting to Jose Mourinho’s appointment by Roma.
It was announced on Tuesday that the former United boss had joined the Italian club on a three-year contract, swiftly returning to management after being relieved of his duties at Tottenham Hotspur just two weeks ago.
A statement from Roma read: “The club are delighted to announce an agreement has been reached with Jose Mourinho for him to become our new head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season.”
United’s 6-2 defeat of Roma in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday may have influenced the club’s decision to part ways with Paulo Fonseca at the end of the campaign, and interestingly Mourinho is set to link up with two familiar faces from his spell at United.
Mourinho will attempt to rekindle his relationships with Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and United fans were quick to joke about the reunion which certainly has the potential to be frosty, while also expressing their feelings over the appointment.
This won’t be the first time Mourinho has managed in Italy, with the Portuguese having previously coached Inter Milan where he won the Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup, the Scudetto twice and the Champions League.
