Here are the latest Manchester United evening headlines for Monday, September 28.
Where Manchester United stand on Jadon Sancho transfer ahead of summer deadline
Manchester United still believe they can agree a deal for Jadon Sancho ahead of the summer transfer deadline next week.
Sancho remains the club’s priority transfer target, and they have spent the entire summer trying to negotiate with Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds are willing to sanction a British record fee for Sancho, but they will not meet Dortmund’s €120million valuation of the winger nor will they pay the fee up-front.
The club have made progress with the player’s representatives recently, but MEN Sport understands the two clubs are still some distance from reaching an agreement over a fee.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are eager to strike a deal similar to that of Romelu Lukaku and Bruno Fernandes in which they pay a significant portion of the fee upfront, with further performance-related clauses on top.
The club are committed to trying to do a deal, and as such, they have not drawn up a list of alternative options on-loan.

Dimitar Berbatov offers stark Manchester United assessment in Liverpool FC comparison
Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has given a frank assessment of his old club after a tough start to the 2020/21 season.
United started the campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace but emerged victorious at the weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to a late penalty from Bruno Fernandes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished third last season, but Berbatov is adamant the achievement should not be celebrated given Man Utd’s standing in the Premier League.
Berbatov was speaking to talkSPORT and promoting his new book ‘My Way’ when he offered a candid view on the gap between United and Liverpool.
Asked if United are making progress under Solskjaer, Berbatov sighed and said: “Probably small steps which sounds really ironic, funny, sarcastic if you want because not long ago United were always considered the team who were going to be at the top.
“Now it’s a bit like, ‘can we qualify for the top four?’ This is now considered a success and it shouldn’t be like this.
“But now times are different and Liverpool is the team that is dictating the tempo in the Premier League and in Europe as well.
“If United want to develop and get better they need to try and catch up to Liverpool because at the moment they are producing the best football.”
