Manchester United evening headlines as Van de Beek outlines ambition

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Wednesday September 16.

Van de Beek makes prediction about United career

Donny van de Beek says he is excited for his future at Manchester United after speaking positively about his first few days at the club.

Van de Beek is United’s only signing in the current transfer window having joined from Ajax for £35million.

And as the Dutchman approaches a possible debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday, he admits United’s youthful squad was one of the factors in his decision to choose the Old Trafford club.

“Everyone has helped me a lot and wanted to make me feel at home and this is really good for me and it has given me the confidence to play,” Van de Beek told Inside United.

“It’s a family club, I feel this already from the first seconds I have been here.”

Van de Beek also expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of fellow Dutchmen Daley Blind, Edwin van der Sar and Robin van Persie by making a major impression for the Reds.

“I watched United a lot [when I was younger],” he added. “Because a lot of Dutch players have played here and this was nice to watch if you’re a young kid and you see the Dutch players there.

“Daley, Edwin, Robin van Persie… you see them. They won a lot of titles and United always played nice football, which was always good to see.”

United unlikely to chase Bale

United are not expected to make a late move for Gareth Bale with the Welsh winger closing in on a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur.

As M.E.N. Sport’s Samuel Luckhurst writes, United were not interested in signing Bale on a permanent basis but had refused to rule out the 31-year-old as a loan option following an impasse in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

Bale was thought to be open to the idea of joining United but is now set to rejoin Spurs seven years after leaving the north Londoners for Real Madrid.

Spurs are also set to sign Sergio Reguilon from Real, although while United monitored the 23-year-old given the uncertainty over their full-back situation, the club did not plan to move for him.

The remainder of United’s transfer window looks set to be dominated by their proposed move for Sancho, although Dortmund have steadfastly refused to admit the possibility of the 20-year-old leaving the club.

United exploring Traore move

United are weighing up a possible move for Atalanta winger Amad Traore.

As Samuel Luckhurst notes, Traore is not seen as an alternative for Sancho, although United have contacted the Serie A side with other clubs thought to be interested in the 18-year-old.

Traore is not expected to come cheap despite having played only 30 minutes of league football for Atalanta.

The Ivory-Coast born wide man, at 17 years and 109 days old, became the youngest player to score on his Serie A debut in Atalanta’s 7-1 hammering of Udinese last October.

He also made late substitute appearances against Juventus and Parma, the latter of whom have been linked with a loan move for him.
