Sancho in United WhatsApp group
Jadon Sancho has reportedly been added to a private WhatsApp group with several United players as preparations for his move to Old Trafford ramp up.
According to journalist Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast, Sancho has been in regular contact with several players at United, stating that the club feel ‘comfortable’ in their current position.
“Manchester United are comfortable at this moment in time that they’re not in any competition for the signature of Jadon Sancho,” he said. “They don’t believe they’re going to be gazumped by no other club because no other club has expressed the same level of interest.
“They’re also very confident the player wants to come to Old Trafford. He has been in constant touch with England international colleagues who currently play for Manchester United and indeed in daily contact with them.
“It’s even believed he’s on a WhatsApp group with some of the Manchester United players as well. Therefore United are very comfortable with their position, they believe that Dortmund will come round to the structure that they’ve suggested.”
Solskjaer must be ruthless with reserve players
As Manchester United step up their interest in Jadon Sancho and playmaker Jack Grealish, adding depth and versatility to their midfield and wide options, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must continue his ruthless streak with three depth players, writes Dominic Booth in MEN Sport.
Solskjaer had moved on from Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Perreira in the closing stages of last season. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes, emergence of Mason Greenwood, and resurrection of Paul Pogba made them surplus to requirements, and now it is time for United to move on, per Booth.
“You suspect if they can land the Aston Villa playmaker, there may only be room for one of Pereira, Mata and Lingard — with the latter at least in the goals again to send a message over his future,” he argues. “The reality is that United will probably keep hold of two of these three peripheral players.
“But Solskjaer showed months ago that he can be ruthless when the occasion requires. This summer is the time for him to show those qualities once again.”
United injury boost for Europa League
After securing their place in the Europa League quarter-finals this week, Manchester United received an injury boost ahead of their tie against FC Copenhagen.
The squad jetted off on Saturday as they made their way to the quarter-final tie. Prior to departing, the squad arrived at Carrington for one final training session with two first-team players in tow, suggesting that they could be available for Monday’s contest against Copenhagen.
Diogo Dalot, who missed the midweek win over LASK in the Round of 16, and Victor Lindelof both trained with the first team, per sources of MEN Sport.
Whether they are able to feature from the off remains to be seen, but Lindelof has been a consistent starter throughout the season alongside Harry Maguire, while Dalot offers depth and versatility at either full-back position and even in midfield if needed.
