Manchester United evening headlines as Dalot loan move is expected

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Saturday, October 3.

Exclusive: Dalot set for loan move

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot has today travelled to Italy to complete a loan move to Italian side AC Milan.

MEN Sport understands the 21-year-old arrived early at Carrington on Saturday morning and spent around 30 minutes at the training ground before departing for Milan to secure his switch.

Dalot has played just once in the Premier League for the Reds in the last 16 months. He did start in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Brighton and Hove Albion but Timothy Fonsu-Mensah, Brandon Williams, and youngster Ethan Laird offer depth across the full-back positions.

Dalot has three years remaining on his contract at United and will be hoping for regular football after two injury-hit years at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand frustrated with United’s transfer business

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his frustration with the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer.

The Reds have signed just one senior player, Donny van de Beek from Ajax, and that is in stark contrast to top-four rivals Chelsea, who have invested more than £200 million in the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Edouard Mendy, and more.

And Ferdinand feels this disparity illuminates United’s difficulties in the transfer market.

“He [Chelsea head coach, Frank Lampard] got his work done early, he’s been able to get onto the training pitch for a certain amount of time, he’s got the players that he wants and now he can start working on it,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“I’d rather be at that end of the spectrum than Manchester United, where you haven’t got your business done, you’re probably frustrated and you don’t know how you’re going to continue in the season after this window.

“The most frustrating thing for fans is that we’ve all been very aware of who the targets were at the beginning of the window. We saw that left-back and right winger are the areas that they’re looking for, then all of a sudden, the season starts and those players haven’t been brought in.

“A defeat to Crystal Palace at home absolutely ignites the negativity surrounding the place and makes it maybe a situation that it never was, whereas if we were buying two months ago everyone would be saying ‘well done Ole’, he’s got them into the Champions League position, he’s got them on this upward trajectory now.

“Then two months, he’s not got those signings and a first defeat of the season at home, it really changes the picture massively for the club.”

Leeds owner rules out James move

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has appeared to confirm the club will not sign Manchester United winger Daniel James, who has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, this summer.

“Dan [James] is on top of our list but seems he will be staying at Man Utd,” the Leeds owner told Stretty News. “There is nothing.”

Leeds managing director Angus Kinnear watched United’s midweek win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup, as MEN Sport revealed, while there have been plenty of reports claiming Leeds will make an approach.

This week, ESPN reported Solskjaer would be willing to sell James as he does not believe the Welsh international can establish himself as a first-team player at the club. The reported fee is £25 million.
