Manchester United boss Solskjaer gives fresh update on transfer search

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to keep searching for new signings, though insisted he would be content if the club signed no more players this summer.

The only transfer United have been able to complete so far this window is a £35million initial deal for Donny van de Beek from Ajax, with Solskjaer delighted to have secured the Dutchman.

United are also pursuing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and could make a further two or three signings, MEN Sport understands, before the window closes on October 6th.

But amid frustration from fans at a perceived lack of activity, while rivals Chelsea take their spending past the £200million mark for the summer, Solskjaer is remaining calm about United’s business.

“It’s never easy to have too many new players in the team, it takes time for players to gel into units,” Solskjaer told BBC 5 live

“We have seen some clubs go for the quick fix and get [players] in, some have trust in the process and the continuation of the process and the coaching.

“We will have to get the results, our response has to be about improving, getting the results but also adding players with different qualities than we have, things that we need.

“When we signed Bruno [Fernandes], we knew we needed that type of player. Now we have signed Donny and he is the type of player that I felt we needed. He is the type of person who will fit the culture, and the team and will improve us for next season and for years to come.”

Solskjaer was then asked whether he would be happy even if United weren’t able to sign another player this summer. Negotiations for Sancho have proven difficult, though after a recent breakthrough fans are hopeful of more transfers to follow Van de Beek.

“I am very happy working with these players and the squad,” Solskjaer replied.

“We always trying to improve and to see if there’s any way possible that we can improve this squad and bring players in that will have the right level of quality and the right personality and have all the right criteria.

“We all know this summer and this year has been a very strange one and it’s important that everyone understands that this has an effect on football and not everyone can spend millions and millions, and new millions.”
