Man Utd star Donny van de Beek ticks three boxes for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

2 min read

Manchester United have waited a while to see the real Donny van de Beek. But, slowly but surely, the Netherlands international is starting to make a good impact at Old Trafford. And reports say he was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because he ticks three boxes for the Norwegian.

United paid £40million to sign Van de Beek from Ajax back in the summer, with the Netherlands international their costliest arrival of the window.

And, after months of waiting, the 23-year-old has only recently broken into the United first team – starring in recent victories against Istanbul Basaksehir and Southampton in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

Van de Beek has won plaudits for his recent showings in the middle of the park, oozing class and creativity.

And it seems his early-season struggles are a thing of the past, with Solskjaer delighted with his performances since the last international break.

Now, the Manchester Evening News have revealed United chose to sign Van de Beek because he ticks three boxes for his manager.

It’s said Solskjaer admires the Netherlands international for being humble, hard-working and honest both on and off the pitch.

“Everyone has quality to play and we know each other. We can play with three today then switch and play the next game with another three or another four.

“It doesn’t matter because all of them have quality and we can all be together on the pitch, everyone can make a difference.

“Donny today played a really good game but Fred and Nemanja [Matic] were really important to us.”

Fernandes also lauded Edinson Cavani, whose brace secured all three points for the Red Devils.

“When you have strikers who move a lot, and they give you the chance to play balls for them, it is really good,” the Portuguese told MUTV.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the summer window

“I think every striker we have gives us options.

“I don’t want to go on personally about Edi or another player because it’s not fair, but of course Edi has qualities, everyone knows that.

“For me, he’s one of those strikers that can smell the goal as you saw twice. He smelt the goal, you need to have this feeling to score these two goals.

“As I said some weeks and some months ago, Edi will help us and he is helping already. For me, one of the best games he played was against Basaksehir in the Champions League and nobody talks about that because he didn’t score but he did an amazing game.

“He helps a lot and he will help more and more in the future.”
