Man Utd must be wary of Man City loan star who could dent Europa League dreams

Manchester United must be wary of the Manchester City loanee catching the eye at Granada.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side take on the La Liga outfit on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

Amongst the players likely to line up in Granada red is Yangel Herrera, on loan from the Etihad Stadium.

The Venezuelan midfielder Herrera signed for City in 2017 and after two campaigns with sister club New York City in Major League Soccer, he moved over to La Liga.

Herrera initially joined Huesca on a six-month deal and now the midfielder is coming towards the end of his second season with Granada which has seen the club reach the last eight of the Europa League.

The 23-year-old has attracted Premier League interest from Southampton and West Ham leaving Manchester City monitoring his progress with the potential of reintegrating him back into their squad for next season.

Manchester City enjoyed a similar success story with Douglas Luiz, who was sold by Pep Guardiola to Aston Villa after the club failed to secure a work permit but did include a buy-back option as they were convinced of the Brazilian’s potential.

Unlike Luiz, Herrera is a more adventurous eight, rather than a sitting midfielder. He’s particularly adept in tight spaces and driving through midfield with his impressive dribbling ability, which United must be wary of if they’re to keep Granada quiet.

In the Europa League alone, the Venezuelan has registered two goals and an assist in seven starts and netted in Granada’s victory over Napoli in the last round of the competition.

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opt for Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the centre of midfield, Fred or Scott McTominay will be wary of the space vacated by Pogba, which could afford Herrera space to create dangerous opportunities.
