Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he had just four senior players in for the first week of pre-season. Manchester United were put to the test ahead of the new campaign following their Europa League exploits in Germany.
After the 2019/20 Premier League season was concluded on July 26, United headed off to Cologne where they eventually came unstuck against Sevilla in the semi-finals of the competition.
United were granted an extra week off by the Premier League, as their season started on September 19 at home to Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils managed to squeeze in just one pre-season friendly behind closed doors which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Solskjaer’s side have endured a mixed start to the season having responded well to the 6-1 thrashing at home to Tottenham.

“Some went to countries they shouldn’t have gone and then had to do two weeks quarantine.
“So pre-season was a bit stop-start. We had four players in training the first week, which isn’t ideal.
“The weeks before the international break was almost like our pre-season.
“We wanted points, obviously but I now feel we’re ready to go.”
