When Ivory Coast got a free kick in the 96th minute and the scores were level agaisnt Burkina Faso last night, they needed a calm head to step up.
So when 18-year-old Manchester United winger Amad, who had come off the bench took control of the set piece, maybe there were a few hearts in mouths watching on.
They needn’t have worried — Amad curled a sensational free kick into the very top left corner to win it for his country and spark wild celebrations.
The goal was a timely reminder of the winger’s quality after a first season at United where he has shown his quality in the flashes where he has been given the chance.
It’s no surprise, then, that upon seeing Amad’s superb international goal, United fans wanted to see more from their most recent signing at Old Trafford next season.
And it didn’t escape some fans that Amad displayed a characteristic needed to be a United player – moments of composure and quality when time is running out.
Watch Amad’s goal and read how some fans reacted:
Eric Bailly was an unused substitute for Ivory Coast, but he could get a chance in their next clash against Ghana next week, along with matchwinner Amad.
Elsewhere in Saturday’s internationals, Victor Lindelof helped Sweden to a win over Armenia, while Dylan Levitt played 90 minutes for Wales in their goalless draw with Albania. Daniel James missed that game through illness.
