Man Utd fans give unanimous verdict on Fred future amid Thiago links

2 min read

Manchester United fans believe that Fred should not leave the club under any circumstances this summer.

The Brazilian has bounced back after a difficult first year at Old Trafford to become a crucial first-team player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has found game time limited following the return of Paul Pogba.

And with Donny van de Beek set to add even more competition in midfield, Fred has been heavily linked with a summer exit with Galatasaray believed to be interested in his services. The 27-year-old is contracted at the club until 2023 and United have the option of an additional year.

MEN Sport understand Fred has no intention of leaving the club and has not been informed he is available for a transfer despite Van de Beek’s arrival. There has been no dialogue between the player’s representatives and he remains happy at the club.

Even after the capture of Van de Beek, United continue to be linked with more midfield additions, most notably Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich though MEN Sport understand he is not a priority target.

United fans are keen to see Fred stay and fight for his place next season, believing it would be a huge mistake to allow him to depart after he finally found his feet in England.

Speaking earlier this month, Fred backed both himself and United to make even more progress next season.

He told United Review: “I’ve been really happy with my performances. Coming from a difficult previous season, I think I’ve had a great season and I’ve maintained a high level of football, which I’m really happy with.

“I’ve received a lot of praise which is important, but I need to continue working hard so that I can improve my game every day, show my worth and help Manchester United. I want to win a lot of trophies here.

“I’ve done really well this season, but I can definitely get better every day. I look to improve with every game and day by day so I’m sure there’s a lot more to come.”
