Man Utd contact Barcelona over Ousmane Dembele transfer and more rumours

2 min read

Manchester United have initiated contact with Ousmane Dembele’s representatives over a January transfer, according to reports.

United were desperate to sign a right winger during the summer transfer window and prioritised bringing in Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

With United unwilling to meet Dortmund’s demands for the England international, Barcelona outcast Dembele was considered as an alternative. MEN Sport understands the Reds had no interest in signing the Frenchman permanently and only considered him an emergency loan option.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen to sign the 23-year-old who is under contract until 2022.

The report states Barcelona are in negotiations over a new deal but are aware United have made contact with the player’s representatives. With his contract running down, Barcelona are believed to be favouring a sale in January while Dembele is in no rush to decide his next move.

Given United are set to add Amad Diallo to their ranks in January, it’s unlikely their interest in Dembele will be revived.

Elsewhere, reports claim United will go head-to-head with Arsenal to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

Ramos, 34, is approaching the end of his current deal with Madrid and has been linked with an exit next summer on a free.

The World Cup winner could negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January and OKDIARIO director Eduardo Inda reports United and Arsenal are both keen to sign the veteran.

While United are aiming to strengthen defensive options, MEN Sport understand Ramos is not a priority target. United are aware their name is often used while a player is in contract negotiations with his current club to speed up his renewal, as proved to be the case with Ramos in 2015.
