Man Utd co-owner Avram Glazer refuses to apologise for Super League proposal

2 min read

Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer refused to apologise over their proposals for the European Super League when approached by a reporter earlier today.

Sunday’s match against Liverpool was postponed due to mass protests outside Old Trafford against the club’s ownership, whilst fans surrounded the Lowry Hotel where the players were being held.

Joel Glazer was central to plans for United to join the breakaway Super League competition but the club eventually pulled out after mass pressure from supporters.

The club then released a statement where Joel Glazer apologised to fans for the proposal after it collapsed within 48 hours.

He said: “We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.

“In seeking to create a more stable foundation for the game, we failed to show enough respect for its deep-rooted traditions – promotion, relegation, the pyramid – and for that we are sorry.”

However, when Joel’s brother, Avram, was approached by Sky News for comment, the co-owner ignored suggestions that he could offer his apologies for the Super League plan.

Watch it here:

“This an opportunity for you – an apology perhaps?” Sky said, whilst being asked if it was time for his family to sell the club and if United fans were “just customers to you”.

However, Avram Glazer ignored the questions and drove away from the reporters after buying some finishing his shopping.

Thousands of Manchester United fans attended the mass demonstration on Sunday, with hundreds breaking into the stadium on two separate occasions to protest on the pitch.

As a result, both clubs agreed to postpone the match after consultation with Greater Manchester Police.

The match is yet to be rearranged, whilst United are next in action on Thursday night when they face AS Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final.
