Chelsea fans were hoping for a penalty that never arrived in the first half against Manchester United, as Harry Maguire appeared to haul down Cesar Azpilicueta with his arm around his neck.

However, the defender got away with it, much to the chagrin of fans, as well as the pundits in the Sky Sports studio, Patrice Evra and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

‘This is 100 percent a penalty,’ said Hasselbaink during the half time break. ‘What is Maguire doing?

‘If you see it from a different angle, he’s just strangling Azpilicueta here and stops him from jumping. He’s putting his weight on his shoulders.’

‘I used to watch wrestling but this is a clear penalty,’ joked former United man Evra. ‘I think we can talk all day but it’s a clear penalty for Chelsea.’

Maguire has been under fire for his performances so far this season, with United letting in 12 goals in the Premier League games leading up to the Chelsea match.

Plus, the 27-year-old got a red card during England’s Nations League defeat to Denmark earlier this month.

He has been experiencing a challenging time both on and off the pitch over the past few months, after he was found guilty of assault following a brawl on the island of Myknonos in August.

The first half against Chelsea ended goalless, and Manchester United had a penalty shout of their own as Thiago Silva tried to swipe at the ball but caught Marcus Rashford on the way through.

Eduoard Mendy almost scored a bizarre own goal in the first half, but was on form for most of it, pulling off a couple of good saves to keep his side in the game.
