Man United player ratings vs West Brom: Martial and Lindelof poor
2 min read

David de Gea
Rooted to his line for Mbaye Diagne’s goal but then denied the striker as well. Magnificent goalkeeping to to thwart Diagne twice in as many seconds. 8
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Got into good crossing positions but often failed to find a teammate. Crucially defended well at the far post. 6
Victor Lindelof
Lindelof was so weak in failing to outmuscle Diagne he made it look more like a foul. Off the pace throughout again. 4
Harry Maguire
Abdicated responsibility at too many crosses and was caught deep on occasion. Earned a penalty that was then overturned and pathetic against Diagne. 4
Luke Shaw
Drawn infield for the opener but rallied to assist Bruno Fernandes and his performance level was good again. 7
Scott McTominay
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was on his case over a breakdown in communication with Fred. Had a shot cleared off the line. 6
Fred
Poor on a day that reinforced United need more creativity from their midfield two against such defensive sides. 5
Marcus Rashford
Treated the right wing like the graveyard shift again and Solskjaer had to give him pointers. One good cross. 5
Bruno Fernandes
Was having one of his worst games for United until he did something out of nothing with his (shinned) volley. 6
Anthony Martial
Nigh-on anonymous in a game he was fortunate to start. Never looked like he remotely fancied it and made way for Mason Greenwood. 3
Edinson Cavani
Could have equalised not long after Diagne nodded in but hit thin air. Went through periods where he never touched the ball. 5
Subs
Mason Greenwood
Did more in four minutes than Martial did in an hour. 6
Donny van de Beek
Offered some thrust. 5
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Took the easy option in starting De Gea over Dean Henderson and inexplicably retained the anodyne Martial when Greenwood is in form. 5
