United’s deadline day activity in full
It was a busy Monday for United as four new signings were secured.
Edinson Cavani was the most high profile of the new arrivals, having joined on a free transfer after his contract expired with PSG in the summer.
Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo also agreed to join.
Here’s our live blog with all the latest on all the new signings.
Cavani’s first words as a United player
Cavani gave his first interview to club media yesterday.
“Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club,” he told United’s official website.
“I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere when it is safe for the fans to return.
“I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football and I know that’s why my focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.”
Forlan’s verdict on Pellistri
Uruguay legend Diego Forlan believes that Facundo Pellistri has huge potential, and always knew it would only be a matter of time before he left his boyhood club.
The 18-year-old winger has established a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in South America, having first broken through for the Montevideo-based side last year.
MEN Sport understands United tracked Pellistri for over a year and believe he can have a role to play in the first-team squad later this season.
“Pellistri has huge potential,” the former United striker said in April, whilst he was Penarol manager.”There is still a lot to work on. He is growing and he makes the difference. We know it will be difficult to keep him for a long time. He has great pace and that is hard to handle.”
