Man United include Harry Maguire and Daniel James in line-up vs Chelsea

Manchester United have named Daniel James, Juan Mata and Harry Maguire in their side to face Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named an unchanged team from the side that beat Newcastle in the Premier League last weekend. It is three changes from the team that secured a brilliant win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek.

Scott McTominay and Fred keep their places in midfield, with Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani all on the bench. There is no place in the matchday squad for Alex Telles.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side includes new signings Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell, with the visitors seemingly playing five at the back.

Before the game, Solskjaer spoke about the increased competition for places in his squad and why United can reap the benefits from added depth.

“Yes that’s the nice thing when you go into the season and we’ve played a few games and players are getting match-time,” he said. “Some are performing better than we maybe expected this early on and they’ve really knocked on the door to say I should be playing more.

“I feel I’ve got a strong squad and that we are capable of rotating now and we’ll have to because there will be so many games.”

“We need to perform better at home. For whatever reason, we haven’t had performances at home this season. We need to find out if it’s the preparation or something else, so we’re going to have to look at that.”
