VAR and penalties took centre stage once again in the aftermath of Manchester United’s goalless draw at Chelsea.
In a much-publicised incident, United were denied a spot-kick when England winger Callum Hudson-Odoi handled inside the box at Stamford Bridge.
The penalty wasn’t given by referee Stuart Attwell – who did check his pitchside monitor – much to the fury of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer post-match.
That heated response from Solskjaer garnered plenty of attention, but fans online also noticed a lighter, more trademark moment from United’s manager during the match.
It came in the 68th minute, when Brazilian midfielder Fred picked up possession on the edge of the Chelsea area and curled a shot wide with his right foot.
Fred was noticeably frustrated by missing the target – in a Premier League game where United once again failed to score against their rivals for a top-four position – but his manager responded encouragingly.
In a moment captured by the Sky Sports cameras, Solskjaer was seen enthusiastically applauding Fred’s effort before giving him a thumbs-up.
Here’s what United fans were saying on Reddit:
mauricesarin: How can you not love Ole man
JHinshaw16: Just in this video you can tell that the relationship that he has with his players is something special.
TopNotchGamerr: Ole is so classy man I love him
h0vi: Solskjær is the football coach we all needed when growing up
stats193: Highlight of the game for me
ADHDtypebeat: I loved this moment in the game. Super wholesome. I was watching the game without crowd noise on and actually heard Ole shouting at players. Bit naive of me I suppose but I had absolutely no idea he could shout like that. Love him even more now!

Manchester United were denied a penalty in controversial fashion against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players were furious that Callum Hudson-Odoi wasn’t penalised for a handball, as they had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. The point leaves United 12 points behind leaders Man City, with Crystal Palace the next opponents.

Fred has only scored once in the Premier League since arriving at Old Trafford in 2018.
Indeed, that came in just his fourth top-flight game after signing from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52million.
The 27-year-old, who started against Chelsea alongside Scott McTominay at the base of United’s midfield, has made 104 appearances for United in all competitions.
