Manchester United fans believe the way the team fell apart following Paul Pogba’s departure against Everton shows he has become one of the side’s most important players.
Without the Frenchman’s presence and quality on the ball in the second-half United surrendered the midfield battle and the Toffees were level within seven minutes of the restart.
Scott McTominay did restore United’s lead with twenty minutes remaining but United struggled to control the final stages of the match and Dominic Calvert-Lewin prodded in the equaliser with seconds left on the clock.
The contrast in United’s performance with Pogba on the field to when he was forced off was night and day and led to United dropping points for the third time in their last four matches.
While the extent of the injury is not yet clear, some United fans are worried that their chances in the title race could be drastically reduced if he is out for a significant amount of time.
Pogba’s injury was assessed on Sunday to ascertain how serious it is and how long he will have to spend on the sidelines.
After the match, Solskjaer said: “It seemed like a muscle injury. He’s fine, we’ll check him out tomorrow and we’ll see how serious it is. I hope it’s not too bad but he didn’t carry on so had to take him off.”
