Things couldn’t have started better at Old Trafford as Bruno Fernandes put United ahead from the penalty spot within the opening two minutes but things quickly started to unravel.
Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min took advantage of some dreadful United defending to overturn United’s lead. Anthony Martial was then sent off following an off-the-ball incident involving Erik Lamela and things continued to go from bad to worse as Harry Kane and Son scored to make the score 4-1 at half-time.
United’s diabolical defending continued in the second half as Serge Aurier got in on the act before Kane added a second with a penalty, compounding United’s misery.
Following the result the pressure is on United to bring more recruits to the club but they only have until 11pm on Monday to do business with all but EFL clubs.
Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles underwent medicals on Sunday ahead of their moves to Manchester, but fans don’t think that the pair will be enough and have demanded they sign a new centre-back.
Some even said they would rather a new central defender arrive at Old Trafford than Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, who has been the club’s top target all summer.
United are still hoping to bring a new right-winger to the club but Dortmund have remained adamant that Sancho will not be leaving Signal Iduna Park.
The club haven’t given up on the deal, though they are unwilling to meet the Bundesliga side’s valuation, and have been actively searching for alternatives.
