Manchester United fans loved Donny van de Beek’s fantastic flick to set up the second goal in the 3-0 victory over Brighton.
United travelled down to the AMEX Stadium for the second time in just five days on Wednesday as they followed up the thrilling 3-2 win in the Premier League with another positive result, this time in the Carabao Cup.
He may not have got on the scoresheet, but the match saw another impressive performance from new signing Van de Beek in the middle of the park.
The Dutchman was making only his second start for the club following his transfer from Ajax this summer but made a strong case to be in the starting XI for Sunday’s match against Tottenham with a composed and efficient display.
He managed to grab his first assist for the club with just a single flick of the ball. Midfield partner Fred played a strong pass into the feet of Van de Beek and, with his back to the play, he made a subtle but inch-perfect touch to put it into the path of Mata who finished in style.
Fans were left impressed by the assist and are hoping to see him start in the Premier League soon.
The win has sent United into the final eight of the competition and they will be hoping to once again reach the semis, where they were knocked out last season by Manchester City.
United will find out their quarter-final opponents in Thursday’s draw, which will be held following the conclusion of Arsenal vs Liverpool.
