Man United fans left baffled by Solskjaer’s defensive selection vs Chelsea

2 min read

Manchester United supporters are asking plenty of questions about the team that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected to play against Chelsea and are particularly frustrated by the absence of Axel Tuanzebe.

United are back in Premier League action on Saturday following their heroics in the Champions League in mid-week as they got their Group H campaign off to a winning start against Paris Saint-Germain.

Solskjaer deployed a three-man defensive system for that victory but for the visit of the London club he has decided to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 formation, going with the same starting XI that defeated Newcastle United 4-1 last week.

Though there were plenty of brilliant performances in the PSG victory, Tuanzebe was perhaps the most impressive as it was his first match in 10 months. Tuanzebe underwent foot surgery earlier this year but showed no signs of rustiness as he came straight back in and kept Neymar and Kylian Mbappe quiet throughout.

However, with Harry Maguire fit again after missing out on the trip to Paris, Tuanzebe has dropped to the bench to make way for the skipper.

Although it’s understandable that a second game in a week might be too much too soon after so long out for the centre-back, fans are frustrated to see him on the bench.

United starting XI vs Chelsea: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Mata, Fernandes, James; Rashford.

Substitutes: Henderson, Tuanzebe, Matic, Pogba, Van de Beek, Cavani, Greenwood.
