Manchester United fans believe that Donny van de Beek should be the man to replace Paul Pogba in the starting XI while he recovers from injury.
Pogba had been enjoying his best run of form in a United shirt for a number of years and was crowned the club’s player of the month for January, grabbing match winning goals against Burnley and Fulham to propel the club to the top of the league.
Sadly, the Frenchman had to be substituted in the 39th minute in Saturday’s agonising 3-3 draw with Everton with what appeared to be a thigh injury.
Further scans on Sunday revealed that he would face a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines, missing Tuesday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with West Ham, Premier League fixtures against West Brom and Newcastle and both legs in the Europea League round-of-32 clash with Real Sociedad.
There is hope that he could be back in time for United’s trip to Chelsea on February 28.
United severely missed Pogba when he was forced off against the Toffees and they soon surrendered control of the game without his intelligent passing and creativity.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to replace him with the more defensively minded Fred, which led to United losing their impetus in attack and dropping yet more points in their fading title charge.
With Pogba set to miss the next five games at least, some fans believe it’s finally time to see Van de Beek be given a proper run in the side.

Manchester United smashed nine goals past Southampton on Tuesday night as they bounced back from disappointing results against Sheffield United and Arsenal in emphatic fashion.
The game was effectively over as a contest inside the first two minutes as Southampton were reduced to 10 men, but United still had to find the goals and they did exactly that, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial (two), Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James all getting on the scoresheet.

The Dutchman arrived from Ajax in the summer amid much fanfare but has struggled for minutes, starting just twice in the Premier League and only managing 52 minutes of action off the bench in 2021.
However, some supporters believe that Van de Beek should now be given a chance in Pogba’s absence, as his ability on the ball will make for a more like-for-like replacement.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game with West Ham, Solskjaer said on the injury: “Of course, Paul has been very important for us and we’re not going to take any risks. [He’s out for] a few weeks, definitely.
“You never want to be injured and, especially, now Paul was really finding his form and enjoying his football. For us, we just have to take as many points and wins as possible, when you lose players.
“We’ve been very healthy and strong for a long period so we can’t moan too much.”
