Man United ‘could be offered Perisic in swap deal’ and more transfer rumours

2 min read

Inter Milan could offer winger Ivan Perisic to Manchester United in a swap deal that would see Chris Smalling head the other way, according to reports.

With less than three weeks until the transfer window closes on October 5, M.E.N. Sport understands that United are working on up to three more deals in addition to the signing of Donny van de Beek this summer.

Attacking signings remain the priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he hopes to add quality and depth to his attacking options to help turn his side into Premier League title contenders.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is still the number one target but, though progress has been made in talks over personal terms, the two clubs have yet to agree a deal and are at an impasse.

United remain adamant that they won’t meet Dortmund’s €120million valuation in an up-front fee while the German club have repeatedly stated that Sancho won’t leave this summer.

As a result, United have been linked with several short-term loan deals as an alternative if the 20-year-old doesn’t arrive at Old Trafford and Perisic is one of them.

The Croatian spent the last season on loan at Bayern Munich and played an important part of the club’s march to a historic treble triumph but has since returned to parent club Inter, where he doesn’t appear to be in the plans of Antonio Conte.

According to FcInterNews, Inter could offer Perisic to United as make weight in a deal to sign centre-back Smalling, should they lose Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain.

Smalling was a revelation in Serie A last season as he spent a year on loan at Roma. Both parties seem keen on the 30-year-old returning to the Stadio Olimpico in a permanent capacity this summer, but Roma have yet to meet United’s valuation.

As a result the door could be open for Inter to swoop in and add to their growing ex-United contingent at the San Siro, with Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez already there.

Perisic was on United’s radar when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club but, now at 31, he is no longer within the club’s ideal age range for new signings.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain suggest new Manchester City signing Ferran Torres rejected the advances of United this summer.

Torres joined City after entering the final year of his contract with Valencia and AS claim he was viewed as an alternative to signing Jadon Sancho for the Reds.

The report claims talks had started with Torres but he decided to join Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
