Manchester United could use star midfielder Paul Pogba in a swap-deal to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid, according to reports.
Zinedine Zidane’s side have long been linked with the Frenchman but a move has not yet materialised and it was announced on Friday that United had taken the option to extend his contract by a further year to 2022.
However, according to The Sun, after Pogba once again cast flirtatious glances in the direction of the Bernabeu, the club turned their eyes to Valverde in case a swap deal becomes an option.
The combative midfielder has become one of Zidane’s most important players as he brings an edge and energy to the midfield and the £640million release clause in his contract signifies how highly he’s rated.
It’s reported that the 22-year-old is on United’s ‘hit-list’ and, though players of such stature would usually be out of United’s reach, Pogba could be a way of securing a deal.
Meanwhile, United are targeting a move for Sporting Lisbon teenager Luis Gomes, according to The Mirror.
United have worked hard in 2020 to strengthen their youth ranks with the likes of Willy Kambwala, Charlie McNeil, Alvaro Fernandez, Alejandro Garnacho, Marc Jurado and Isak Hansen-Aaroen all coming in this past summer.
The report vaguely suggest that 16-year-old Gomes has been dubbed the ‘new Luis Figo’ despite making no efforts to actually verify it.
