Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ben White.
The Reds are said to be one of a trio of Premier League clubs monitoring the Brighton centre-back’s performances following his impressive loan spell at Leeds United last season.
Sky Sports report that United, along with Tottenham and Chelsea, are closely watching the 23-year-old’s performances in the Premier League this season.
He has started all 10 of Brighton’s league games this season, predominantly playing in a back three with Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster, and, according to scouting platform Wyscout, is the fourth-best performing centre-back in the Premier League so far this season.
After impressing in the Championship on loan at Leeds United last season, the Whites were keen to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal.
Yet Brighton held firm in their desire to keep the player, demanding £40m to let him go and eventually tying him down to a new contract that runs until 2024.
The Reds were on the lookout for a new centre-back in the summer but, with the likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Timothy Fosu-Mensah all still at the club and not getting game time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still has plenty of depth in defence.

Manchester United secured a dramatic comeback victory at Southampton on Sunday, largely thanks to Edinson Cavani’s two goals off the bench.
Bruno Fernandes’ goal set Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on course to battle back from 2-0 down at St Mary’s, giving United a third successive Premier League win.

Inconsistent defensive performances so far this season may have increased United’s desire to bring a new centre-back to Old Trafford in January, however.
If the Reds do target White, they are said to face competition from Spurs and Chelsea.
Spurs signed Joe Rodon from Swansea City on transfer deadline day in October but Toby Alderweireld’s injury issues has left them monitoring centre-back options.
Chelsea, meanwhile, added Thiago Silva in the summer, but his contract runs for just one season.
