Jules Kounde could stay at Sevilla for a further season, despite strong interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. This is due to the fact that the Spanish club are looking for more than the £50million Manchester City offered for the player before the start of last season.
Kounde is just 22 years old but is already one of the most highly-rated young defenders in European football.
AS are reporting that Sevilla director of football Monchi is determined not to sell the player on the cheap and is in no rush to listen to offers below what City put forward last season.
After Pep Guardiola went on to sign Ruben Dias from Benfica last summer – and has since been a huge success – it is unlikely City will make another move for the player.
The Spanish outlet report that United, Chelsea, and Arsenal have their ‘focus’ on Kounde, but none of those clubs has yet made a final decision on the player.
This indicates that another season in La Liga is very much a possibility, with a huge bid needed to prise him away from Sevilla.
The 22-year-old’s stock could be set to rise further still after his call-up to the French national team for Euro 2020.
The tournament is his first involvement with the senior team having made his debut in a warm-up friendly against Wales a few weeks ago.
He was selected over the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Aymeric Laporte by France boss Didier Deschamps.
Kounde did admit earlier this month that he expects to leave Sevilla in the summer transfer window.
“Regarding my future, it’s certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer,” he said.
“But nothing has been finalised yet. I have not decided anything.
“My goal is to play for a big club, to try to always progress, and to win trophies.
“It’s true that I might have to move but that’s not relevant today.”
