Grealish enjoyed a stunning season for Villa, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists in 24 Premier League starts.
His form has earned him the No. 7 shirt for England at the postponed Euros this summer and he has been heavily linked with a mega-money move in the transfer window, too.
Manchester City and Manchester United are the two clubs most consistently linked with his signature but Liverpool legend Barnes feels Grealish is far more suited to stay at Aston Villa.
‘He’s such an individual type of player, so for him to go to one of the bigger clubs where there’s more of a structure and there are superstar players around him, then Jack can’t just go and demand the ball off these great players.
‘Say for example at Manchester United, Jack can’t go and demand the ball off Paul Pogba or Bruno Fernandes as if he’s the main player. He would have to play a more disciplined role. Would that be the right thing for him?
‘Unless you’re a Lionel Messi or a Cristiano Ronaldo, then you’re not going to take over from the superstar players at these big clubs.
‘If he was to leave Villa then Jack could earn more money, more prestige and a few trophies but I don’t think it would do his playing career a lot of good if he was to go to a huge club.’
Grealish earned plaudits for his performance in England’s 1-0 win over Austria.
He was hugely instrumental in creating Bukayo Saka’s goal, picking up the ball on the halfway line, playing a sumptuous ball wide to Harry Kane before being denied a goal himself by a fine last-ditch tackle, which fell to Saka to slot in.
And Roy Keane, the former Manchester United midfielder, compared him to United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘He’s a pure quality player,’ former Man United captain Keane said of Grealish on ITV. ‘Every time I watch him play, he affects the game.
‘I’d find it very hard to leave him out of the starting XI. He could be the star man for England, he makes things happen.
‘He has courage and always wants the ball in tight areas. Like Cristiano Ronaldo at Portugal, you need players like that in your team. He’s outstanding.’
