Liverpool FC ‘overtake Man United’ in Sancho race and more transfer rumours

2 min read

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have overtaken Manchester United in the race to sign Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

The summer transfer window came to a close on Monday night and while United managed to complete four deals before the the deadline, none of them were top target Sancho.

United had identified Sancho as their priority months in advance of the window but after missing Borussia Dortmund’s August 10 deadline for a deal to be done and failing to meet their valuation, they have once again missed out on the winger.

With no new right winger arriving in his his place, it’s expected that United will once again try and sign the 20-year-old next summer but they may face much more competition in the process.

According to The Independent, figures close to Sancho say that Liverpool and Bayern are now seen as ‘likelier destinations’ for his next club.

It’s reported that while Sancho was willing to move to Old Trafford, though he never considered attempting to force a move through, he is now re-assessing his options.

Liverpool, the report adds, were not in a position to spend over £100million this summer but that is expected to change in 2021 and that there is a feeling they have leaped ahead of United.

Elsewhere, United’s board see the summer transfer window as a success, according to reports.

Although United failed to land Sancho, they did bring in Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri, as well Amad Diallo who will arrive in January.

The Daily Mail suggest club hierarchy are happy with the window which saw them bring in four new signings for the first-team, as well as additions at youth level.
