Jack Grealish makes season admission amid Manchester United interest

2 min read

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish admitted he hasn’t been surprised by his success in the Premier League this season.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form despite Villa’s struggles at the wrong end of the table, attracting interest from Manchester United.

MEN Sport understands that Grealish remains a high-priority signing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he bids to add further creativity to his midfield ranks.

United will prioritise the signing of Grealish this summer over Leicester City’s James Maddison, as it’s expected Maddison will sign a new contract at Leicester. Grealish could come at a cheaper price with Villa’s Premier League status under threat.

With seven goals and six assists to his name this season, the boyhood Villa fan has taken to the top flight like a duck to water.

Whilst his impact may have surprised those on the outside, Grealish himself has revealed he never had any doubt about making an impression in the Premier League.

“My season has been very good, though I probably didn’t start as I wanted to,” he told The Guardian.

“I got an assist in the second game but apart from that I don’t think I got a goal or an assist for six weeks and that’s what I base my game on, what I do to help the team since then I have just thrived and enjoyed every single moment.

“Without sounding arrogant or big-headed I had no doubts I would come into this league and perform the way I have done.”

Aston Villa sit second-bottom in the Premier League table with nine matches left to be played.
