Harry Maguire among returning Manchester United players at training

2 min read

Harry Maguire has reported back at Manchester United’s training complex before their season starts next week.

Maguire, 27, was given additional time off by the club after he was arrested on the Greek island of Mykonos last month and convicted of all charges. Maguire’s legal team have lodged an appeal that has quashed the initial court verdict and nullified the conviction.

The United captain was withdrawn from the England squad by Gareth Southgate hours after he was originally included and Southgate has clarified Maguire will be called up for the October internationals.

Daniel James also returned to Carrington after playing in both of Wales’s Nations League matches. James played the full 90 minutes of their win over Bulgaria in Cardiff on Sunday night.

United start their season a week later than the majority of Premier League clubs with the visit of Crystal Palace on September 19. United, Manchester City and Wolves have been granted a delayed start following their participation in the latter stages of the Europa League and Champions League in August.

United started pre-season training last Wednesday yet only 10 first-team squad members were spotted arriving at Carrington, with several away on international duty and others believed to be in quarantine. Paul Pogba tested positive for COVID-19 in late August.

Marcos Rojo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Andreas Pereira reported for training after the initial batch of players arrived last week.

United players spotted reporting for pre-season training so far:

Lee Grant, Nathan Bishop, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe, Chris Smalling, Harry Maguire, Marcos Rojo, Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford
