Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes his former club should prioritise a move for Dortmund striker Erling Haaland over Harry Kane this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men consolidated their spot in second with a 3-1 win against Tottenham on Sunday thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani, Fred and Mason Greenwood.

The Norwegian admitted after the victory that Cavani was still undecided as to whether to extend his stay at Old Trafford but regardless of the Uruguayan’s decision, United plan on signing a striker this summer.

Kane was surprisingly quiet against the Red Devils and the England captain is believed to be questioning his future in north London, particularly as Spurs look set to miss out on the top four.

Haaland is set to leave Dortmund this summer as a release clause in his contract means he’s available for just £62m in 2022.

United are interested in both players but Keane believes Haaland’s age and resale value makes him the more astute acquisition, though the Irishman admitted he would also love to see Kane at the Theatre of Dreams.

Asked first if United should sign a striker, Keane told Sky Sports: ‘Yes 100% because United will need one.

‘Anthony Martial’s injury problems you wouldn’t hang your hat on him, Edinson Cavani’s pushing on he can’t play every week.

‘United want to get back to winning tittles so they’ll certainly need another striker. Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, I’d take any [either] of them.

Asked who he’d prefer to sign out of the pair, Keane replied: ‘Probably Haaland because of his age and the investment behind it but I wouldn’t say no to Kane either if he was the second option.’

Haaland is valued at around £150m by Dortmund and the Bundesliga giants are keen to sell this summer as a release clause in the Norwegian’s contract means he can be bought for £62m in 2022.

The 20-year-old chose Dortmund over United less than 18 months ago when he left RB Salzburg but Solskjaer believes he can convince the striker to move to Old Trafford.

United do, however, face stiff competition for his signature. Haaland’s representatives have already spoken to Real Madrid and Barcelona, while they’re expected to hold further negotiations with Manchester City, United and Paris Saint-Germain.
