Gary Neville has slammed Manchester United’s hierarchy for presiding over another bungled transfer window and insists his former club must deliver Ole Gunnar Solskjaer three new players before next week’s deadline.

The United boss presided over a dramatic upturn in form towards the end of last season and secured a top four finish in the Premier League and masterminded United’s run to the semi finals of the Champions League.

Solskjaer’s side has, however, started the new campaign in sluggish fashion, losing at home to Crystal Palace on the opening weekend and earning a hugely fortuitous 3-2 victory at Brighton last weekend.

So far this summer, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has helped seal just one major transfer in the shape of Netherlands international midfielder Donny van der Beek.

Neville fears United’s hopes of emulating last season’s success, let alone improving, could depend on the addition of a new full-back, centre-half and a forward.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘It’s appalling that in this market which is probably the easiest in PL history to get transfers done that United haven’t done more yet!

‘They must get Ole a CB , LB and Forward pre-deadline! The others are managing to get things over the line why not United!’

Jadon Sancho was earmarked by Solskjaer as his No.1 target this summer but United have made little to no progress in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund. The Premier League giants are said to be ready to make one final attempt to land the England international, who was left out of his side’s squad ahead of tonight’s German Super Cup against Bayern Munich due to illness.

United are said to be considering Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as a potential alternative and have also been sounded out by the representatives of Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.

Neville’s initial comment on Twitter saw the the Sky Sports pundit accused of encouraging United to panic buy, but the 45-year-old insists his former employers have had long enough to get their house in order.

He added: ‘Panic Buy! They’ve needed these positions filling for 12 months , had a national lockdown to regroup and re-set and ample time to manoeuvre deals to a conclusion.’

United travel to Brighton again this evening for a Carabao Cup fourth round tie where Solskjaer is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting line-up with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial likely to be rested ahead of Sunday Premier League fixture against Spurs.
