Gareth Bale ‘wanted to move to United this summer… but grew tired of waiting for Ed Woodward’

2 min read

Gareth Bale was keen on a move to Manchester United this summer but grew tired of waiting for the club’s hierarchy to make a decision on Jadon Sancho, it has been reported.

United’s will they, won’t they transfer saga with Sancho has been hitting headlines throughout the window, and there are still possibilities a deal will be done before Monday evening’s deadline.

It now appears that Bale was a viable option for United, with ESPN reporting that the club told the now-Tottenham star that if a move for Sancho fell through he would be high on their list of back-up options.

It is understood that Bale was keen on that move, but after a proposal from Tottenham was then presented, he decided he couldn’t wait any longer for United.

Instead the Real Madrid forward completed a move to his old side in north London, where he will stay for the season on a loan deal.

United, meanwhile, still only have Donny van de Beek through the door as they desperately try to secure improvements to their squad before the deadline.

Club legend Gary Neville is among the big names to have slammed Ed Woodward and Co in recent days, with the pundit claiming they need to sign a left back, a centre back, and a forward before Monday night.

United have irons in a few fires, with the Sancho deal still one that could happen if they agree to meet Dortmund’s reported £108m valuation.

There have been rumours about the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Edinson Cavani, Ismaila Sarr, Luka Jovic, Dayot Upemecano, Alex Telles and Ngolo Kante, with the Old Trafford giants expected to be one of the busiest sides heading towards the deadline.

Bale, meanwhile, is settling back into life at Tottenham and has been pictured in training this week as he nears a return to fitness.

Spurs fans are excited to see their former star back in the club’s colours, although it appears his second debut will not come against United this weekend.
