Brazilian midfielder Fred is fighting fit as Manchester United continue their three-pronged charge for silverware this season – and it might all be down to his special training routine.
After helping United earn derby day bragging rights against runaway table-toppers Man City, Fred is expected to keep his place in the starting line-up for Thursday’s Europa League last-16 first leg against AC Milan.
The 28-year-old has developed into an integral part of the engine room since his move from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, despite plenty of competition for places from the likes of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.
He may not grab the headlines like his ‘quick-thinking’ Portuguese teammate, but the work Fred does in front of the defence plays an equally important part in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who are some way behind in the Premier League title race but do maintain hope of success in the FA Cup and Europe.
But what exactly goes into his preparations for a place in the United midfield?
In an interview on YouTube channel O Clube, translated from Portuguese, Fred said: “I’m already 28-years-old, so it’s good to take care of my body. My body is my work tool, right?
“So this work that I do with my fitness coach is important for me to improve on the pitch.
“I hope to continue working with him for a long time. It’s not ‘clandestine’ – we talk a lot with the United staff.
