Glen Johnson has praised Chelsea’s recent form, but questioned the players’ decision to perform under new manager Thomas Tuchel rather than former boss Frank Lampard.
Chelsea have produced a series of good results against Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham and Manchester United to see them leap from ninth in the Premier League table to fourth while under Tuchel’s tutelage.
Although Johnson admits the appointment of the German boss has been ‘good’ for the club, he believes the Chelsea players must ‘have a look at themselves’ as they should have been performing to the same level under Lampard.

However, Johnson has questioned the players’ decision to perform for Tuchel over Lampard
When speaking to CheltenhamGuides.com, Johnson said: ‘When Tuchel first came in, Chelsea were beating teams that they should have been beating, but now they’ve shown they can beat Tottenham, Everton and got a good result against Manchester United.
‘I think that Lampard could have done a similar job, it’s just a shame and a problem for the players, how can they perform like this for the new manager but they couldn’t for Lampard?
‘So the players have to look at themselves. But that said, right now the appointment looks good because they’re absolutely flying.’

Lampard became the 10th manager sacked during the Roman Abramovich era at Chelsea
Lampard became the 10th manager sacked during the Roman Abramovich era as Chelsea slumped to ninth in the Premier League table under his tutelage.
Confirmation of his sacking came in January after the club took decisive action following a torrid run of five losses in eight league games.
As a result, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager, Tuchel, was drafted in to take over.
Tuchel has had an impressive start to his tenure at Chelsea, having won six and drawn three of his nine Premier League matches so far.
His side have also kept one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Atletico Madrid last month.
Johnson says that mentality from the players is a ‘problem’ and they should look at themselves
Chelsea are back in action on Saturday, when they take on Leeds United in the Premier League
Chelsea’s most recent success came when Tuchel said his side ‘completely controlled’ proceedings against top-four rival and secured a 2-0 win.
However, Johnson is reluctant to believe Chelsea’s new found success is purely down to the manager and believes the players must ‘have a look at themselves’.
