Exclusive: Paul Pogba returns to Manchester United training

2 min read

Paul Pogba has returned to the Manchester United training ground after recovering from coronavirus.

Pogba, 27, tested positive for COVID-19 last month but reported at United’s Carrington training complex ahead of their Saturday afternoon friendly at Aston Villa.

The illness prevented Pogba from featuring for France in their Nations League wins over Sweden and Croatia but he congratulated compatriot Anthony Martial on his performance in the latter victory.

Pogba’s wife, Maria Zulay, wrote on Instagram last week: “Home taking some vitamin D, we are feeling much better now.”

It is unclear whether Pogba will travel to Villa Park, the scene of his only goal last season, this weekend as he has only just returned to Carrington. Returning United goalkeeper Dean Henderson expects to make his maiden first-team appearance against Villa ahead of his first full season in the senior squad.

Juan Mata is training at home as he nears the end of his period of quarantine before returning to first-team training.

Mata is one of a handful of first-team squad members yet to report at United’s training ground but the MEN understands he is quarantining at home after returning from Spain. It is understood the 32-year-old has had home tests and tested negative for COVID-19.

Sergio Romero, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, Fred and Nemanja Matic have not been spotted at Carrington since pre-season training started last week.

United begin their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on September 19.
