Edinson Cavani has sent an emotional message to fans of his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, as he prepares to sign for Manchester United.
United have completed a deadline day transfer for the Uruguayan striker and look set to unveil the 33-year-old as one of their key summer arrivals, after he passed a medical on Sunday. A deal has been agreed to take him as a free agent, with agents’ fees making up the biggest outlay for United, who have agreed a structured contract for the veteran.
Cavani is expected to provide serious competition for Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford up front for United.
And the striker took to Instagram to officially bid farewell to PSG, who he left in the summer upon the expiry of his contract. He is now looking to pastures new at Old Trafford.
“I know it’s been a while since my departure but sometimes it’s better to leave a bit of time to pass,” said Cavani. “It’s better for the head and there is less risk of creating situations that are sometimes not true but sometimes they’re negative.
“I prefer to wait to talk. Thank you to the supporters who gave me their heart. It is a love that grew over time with the supporters which is important alongside sacrifices, work and results. That’s why it’s important to me.

“All the nice moments we had spent together, even the not so nice moments which are part of life, that’ll stay here [in the heart].
“Thank you to everyone who worked in Paris, who did things with affection for me, that’s what’s important, that’ll stay in my head and body. Life continues.”
Porto left-back Alex Telles is understood to have had a medical on the same day as Cavani and will be unveiled on deadline day with the striker.
