The former PSG forward arrived on a free transfer in the summer window with a glittering CV, and while doubts initially lingered over his suitability to still compete at the highest level, Cavani has emphatically responded with his performances on the pitch.
At 34 years old, Cavani’s longevity is equally as impressive as his ability to find the back of the net, and his movement off the ball, which allows him to fashion space to capitalise on opportunities, has drawn praise from pundits and fans alike.
However, while his contribution – Cavani has 12 goals and five assists this season – and expert movement has rightly gathered attention, the Uruguay star has revealed the other attributes that make him the perfect United player.
“I think that one of the things that I did have in my favour when I was a youngster was that real passion for running, for working hard and that desire to give absolutely everything,” Cavani told United’s club media.
“For wanting to score goals too, because that was something I loved to do. I think every youngster, every footballer is excited by scoring goals. It’s the big attraction about the game, isn’t it?
“But it was that ambition that I had to always give one hundred per cent, always do your best, to always be on the field and playing at all times. Wanting to win, wanting to compete. I believe that these were some of the things that drove me on.”
