Manchester United expect to close a deal for Ajax star Donny van de Beek in the next 48 hours after agreeing personal terms with the Dutchman over a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old was left out of Ajax’s squad to face  Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday due to ‘transfer developments’.

United have been in conversation iwth the midfielder’s representatives for a number of weeks and the player had intimated that he’d like to move to the Theatre of Dreams.

The biggest stumbling block was a fee with Ajax, as the Dutch giants had been seeking around £50m before the global pandemic hit.

However, De Telegraaf claims a deal has been agreed that will see United pay a maximum of £40.3million to Ajax for the Netherlands international.

The Dutchman has now agreed personal terms with United on a five-year deal and he’s expected to undergo a medical this week to complete the move.

Van de Beek will likely be given permission by the Netherlands set-up to leave the side’s training camp to complete a deal and he’ll become United’s first signing of the summer.

United had hoped to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish but the Red Devils were unwilling to meet his £75m asking price.

Van Beek arrives at Old Trafford with 175 Ajax appearances to his names and he’s scored 41 goals in that time.

Real Madrid had been keen on signing the midfielder but their interest cooled following the pandemic, while Barcelona are eyeing Liverpool ace Gini Wijnaldum.
