Paul Pogba has sent a congratulatory message to Amad after he scored his first Manchester United goal.

The 19-year-old was given another taste of first-team action against AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday, with Edison Cavani and Marcus Rashford unavailable due to injury.

Amad replaced Anthony Martial at half-time and made an instant impact, scoring his first goal at Old Trafford just five minutes after the restart with a fantastic backwards header from Bruno Fernandes’ lofted pass.

Pogba, who remains out of action due to injury, took to social media to praise Amad for his goal, writing: “Congrats @Amadadiallo19 on your first goal!”

The teenager took to social media to send a message to United fans too, writing: “We are Manchester and we will fight for another 90 minutes.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for United’s £37million January recruit, praising his creativity in only his third substitute appearance for the club.

“He’s creative. He plays with freedom,” said Solskjaer after the match.

“A great pass by Bruno [Fernandes] by the way, that’s of course what makes the goal. Amad, he’s been on the pitch before, but nice goal.

Amad’s strike at Old Trafford was only his second professional goal, having scored once for Atalanta against Udinese.

Despite his lack of senior football, United scouts were convinced Amad would be a hit, convincing the board to lay out a hefty fee for the 19-year-old.

Rashford and Cavani are both doubts to play at the weekend against West Ham so, as a result, Amad could get his first taste of Premier League action after impressing in the Europa League.
