Dean Henderson will tell Manchester United that he wants to replace David De Gea as their No.1 goalkeeper or be allowed to leave following interest from Chelsea, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has impressed during his loan spell with Sheffield United and his performances have led to calls for him to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new first-choice goalkeeper following his inconsistent form this season.

Henderson’s eye-catching displays for Sheffield United has also attracted interest from Chelsea, with Frank Lampard keen to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga following his error-strewn campaign at Stamford Bridge.

And according to The Sun, Henderson will seek a move away from United if he is not guaranteed a regular role at Old Trafford next season.

The report claims that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Henderson’s situation and could submit an offer this summer, but United do not want to sell him to a Premier League rival.

Despite De Gea’s poor performances for United this season, Henderson has defended the Spaniard and believes Solskjaer’s No.1 deserves another chance.

‘The fans have to remember what he’s done for the last nine years, he’s been phenomenal,’ said the 23-year-old.

‘He’s probably been the best player at Manchester United for that time period.

‘He should get another opportunity.

‘I’m a young lad. I’m working hard. I’m a fan of the club and I want to play for them. Hopefully I have a career at Man United like David De Gea has.’
