David De Gea sends message to Liverpool’s Alisson after family tragedy

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has sent an emotional message to Liverpool counterpart Alisson Becker following the death of the Brazil international’s father.

Reports in Brazil say that 57-year-old Jose Agostinho Becker drowned after going for a swim on his property in Lavras do Sul.

Brazilian club Fluminense – where Alisson’s goalkeeper brother Muriel currently plays – have expressed their condolences.

“Fluminense Football Club deeply regret the passing of Jose Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Muriel and Alisson. We wish all strength to his friends and family,” the club said on Twitter.

Sao Paulo tweeted to their 4.4m followers: “With much regret, Sao Paulo FC receives the sad news of the death of Jose Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel.

“Our condolences and solidarity with the two athletes and their families. A lot of strength and a lot of light at this point.”

Internacional, the club where Alisson started his professional career, also paid tribute, tweeting: “It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel.

“Clube do Povo wishes strength to family and friends in this moment of so much pain.”

Back in England, Liverpool ‘s neighbours Everton took to Twitter to say: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Everton are with Alisson Becker and his family following the tragic news of the death of his father, Jose Becker.”
