Todibo, 20, is seen as one of Europe’s most exciting defenders breaking through onto the elite level.
But the Frenchman could well have been making his big break at Old Trafford, after being scooped from his hometown team to test his abilities at United.
Barcelona youngster Jean-Clair Todibo revealed he very nearly ended up at Man United
A trial was offered to the then teenager several years ago, which he feels went very well.
‘It was crazy, I went from Les Lilas to United,’ Todibo told Onze Mondial.
‘It was a dream that was coming true when I hadn’t done anything, really. It was just a trial. Everything went well, but I wasn’t taken.’
The youngster went on to outline that United ultimately did not fancy his services, and was turned down with minimal feedback.
A loan move to Schalke helped the youngster showcase his defensive capabilities
‘I don’t know why my trial didn’t lead to anything. I still haven’t received an explanation to this day,’ he added.
In recent years United showed a desire to overhaul their defensive line, parting with £80million to make Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in football history.
It was back to the drawing board for Todibo, who returned to France and was quickly signed by Toulouse and given first team opportunities.
The growth of the youngster in French football was prominent, putting Barca on red alert after scouts noted his strong reading of the game and impressive physicality.
So far Todibo’s Barca career has taken a slow trajectory, following limited appearances in his debut season with the club.

The Frenchman struggled to earn a run in the side with Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti first choice names on the team sheet.
A loan move to Schalke saw Todibo’s stock rise again, though the outspoken youngster insists he was deserving of more game time this season.
Todibo added: ‘For me, this season, I deserved more playing time.
‘The first six months, when I arrived, I did not mind not playing because in training, I saw that I didn’t have the level yet, but this year, I would have deserved to play more.’
