Barcelona and Real Madrid eye Bruno Fernandes and more Man United rumours

3 min read

Barcelona and Real Madrid are keen on signing Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United at the end of the season, according to reports.

The Portugal midfielder has quickly become a firm favourite at Old Trafford since his arrival last January and has been one of the club’s top-performers ever since.

Previous links with a move to Spain were continuously mentioned during his time with Sporting Lisbon and, rather unsurprisingly, the rumours have emerged once again.

Reports cited by Sport claim that Fernandes is ‘fed up’ with United, with ‘internal conflicts’ leaving the 26-year-old ready to move on next summer if sporting objectives are not met.

It’s quite a stretch for a rumour though, particularly has Fernandes himself spoke out last month amid suggestions he had fallen out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Then there’s the case of the transfer fee involved, as United would be fair to demand an astronomical figure for his services given the price they paid and his performances since.

Barcelona’s cash-flow issues have been well documented, so it’s difficult to see where that money would come from, and Real Madrid’s lack of incoming deals in the summer suggest it’s a similar situation in the Spanish capital.

Elsewhere, and sticking with the Spanish theme, Marca claim United are among the clubs keeping tabs on the situation surrounding Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is said to be considering his options, though a new deal with Los Blancos could still emerge.

United’s name is specifically mentioned along with that of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, with the suggestion that the trio are all keeping a close eye on developments.

United entered the international break by winning what was arguably their most important match of the season at Everton on Saturday.

The under-pressure Reds came from behind to beat the Toffees thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ double and Edinson Cavani’s first goal for United.

It’s not the first time Ramos has been linked with United but it isn’t a transfer that makes sense considering his age and his hefty wage demands.

While improvements from the United defence are required, splashing out excessive wages and bonuses on a player approaching his mid-thirties would be rather bizarre.

Ramos’ entourage have played poker with Real Madrid regarding contract terms previously, so it may be that names are being floated in order to encourage the La Liga side to offer improved terms.
